Data Analytics Specialist Department of Public Works – Customer Service Division

The Department of Public Works Customer Service Division is seeking a Data Analytics Specialist who thrives at the intersection of numbers, service, and continuous improvement.

What You’ll Do
As our Data Analytics Specialist, you’ll serve as the steward of data integrity and insight for the division.
You’ll collect, audit, and analyze data from multiple systems, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established policies and standards.
Using tools like Excel, Power BI, and SQL, you’ll transform complex datasets into meaningful reports and dynamic dashboards that inform leadership and guide day-to-day operations.
You’ll:
- Identify patterns, trends, and performance opportunities through data-driven research and statistical analysis
- Design and validate data collection methods and reporting protocols
- Conduct quality assurance reviews and resolve discrepancies with cross-functional teams
- Develop clear, compelling visuals and summaries for both technical and non-technical audiences
- Serve as a subject matter expert on systems, databases, and reporting processes
- Train and support staff to enhance data quality and data-driven practices
- Recommend and help implement process improvements that increase efficiency and reliability
- Your work will directly support operational transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement in public service delivery.

Hiring Range: $58,000.00 - $65,000.00 annually
This position has an anticipated work schedule of Monday – Thursday, 6:30am – 5:00pm; subject to change.

Responsible for ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and usability of data related to functional assignment. Performs a variety of activities involved in the collection, analysis, visualization, and interpretation of data to support decision-making and continuous improvement. Utilizes tools such as Excel, Power BI, and SQL to identify patterns, evaluate operational performance, and recommend process improvements. Ensures data compliance with established policies, procedures, and standards, and collaborates with staff to enhance data-driven practices. Employment is subject to the terms, conditions, and policies detailed in the Personnel Policies Manual (PPM). This position requires regular in-person presence as an essential job function.
Requirements
- Collects, audits, and analyzes data from multiple systems and various sources to ensure completeness, consistency, and accuracy.
- Develops and maintains reports, dashboards, and data visualizations in Power BI or similar platforms to support performance analysis.
- Completes quality assurance reviews of datasets; identifies errors, gaps, and trends; and collaborates with staff to resolve discrepancies.
- Designs and validates data collection and analysis methods; assists in developing protocols and tools for data entry, reporting, and extraction.
- Conducts data-driven research and uses statistical tools to identify, analyze, and interpret patterns and trends.
- Assists with maintaining data integrity related to the assigned functional area and ensures operational reporting accuracy.
- Collaborates with stakeholders to develop frameworks, data delivery processes, and dashboards that align with goals and objectives.
- Compiles audit results and findings; prepares summaries and recommendations for leadership consideration.
- Serves as a subject matter expert on assigned systems, databases, and data processes. Provides training and technical support to staff on data quality, reporting, and visualization.
- Participates in identifying, recommending, and assisting with the implementation of process improvement opportunities to enhance efficiency and data reliability.
- Maintains documentation of data sources, processes, and workflows.
- Participates in internal committees or workgroups related to data, analytics, and technology integration.
- Performs other duties as required.
Supervision Exercised: This classification does not have supervisory authority; however, may be required to provide expertise or limited guidance or direction to employees, such as overseeing work quality, training, and guidance. Typically serves as a subject matter expert on the scope of functional area.
Supervision Received: Receives general supervision. This classification typically performs job duties by following established standard operating procedures and/or policies. Regular direction, guidance, and coaching from supervisor may be expected. There is a choice of the appropriate procedure or policy to apply to duties. Performance reviewed periodically.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities- Knowledge of data analysis, visualization, and quality assurance principles.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel (advanced), Power BI, SQL, and other data management tools.
- Knowledge of data governance, audit methodologies, and database structure.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to independently manage data projects and priorities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present technical data to non-technical audiences.
- Ability to collect, synthesize, and interpret operational data to develop sound recommendations.
- Ability to identify data anomalies, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and integrity with sensitive or proprietary data.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, leadership, and stakeholders.
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
Required Education & Experience- High school diploma or equivalent education.
- Two years of data analysis, quality assurance, or database management experience.
- Associate’s degree in a related field may substitute for one year of required experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.
Preferred Education & Experience- Bachelor’s degree in data analytics, information systems, business analytics, or a related field.
- Experience with Power BI, Tableau, or other data visualization platforms.
- Experience with SQL, Crystal Reports, or similar data query/reporting tools.
Pre-Employment Requirements- Must pass conditional post offer background investigation and drug screen.
Additional Information
Duties are primarily performed in an office environment. May be required to work evening or weekend hours based on department needs. Based on the assignment, this position may be required to perform or assist with field inspections or site visits occasionally.
