Job Description

Summary

Paul Public Library is seeking a skilled and dependable Custodian-Engineer I to help maintain safe, clean, and fully functional facilities that support our staff and the community we serve.

This position plays a critical frontline role in building operations assisting with the maintenance of heating and cooling systems, maintaining high custodial standards, and responding to day-to-day facility needs.

The ideal candidate takes pride in their work, understands the importance of preventative maintenance, and is committed to delivering reliable service in a public-facing environment.

We currently have one vacancy with the St. Paul Libraries. The eligible list created from this exam will be used to fill Custodian-Engineer I positions as they become available within the City.

Information specific to department vacancy: A typical working schedule for this position is 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. or 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Position will be assigned to a primary library branch but expected to cover all branches when needed.

Weekends and holidays are required if snow removal is needed or there is an urgency/emergency, but not as part of typical work schedule.

Requirements

    Eligible Lists: Eligible lists typically are created from a pass/fail assessment. Those who pass the assessment will be placed on an eligible list for approximately six months. Hiring Managers may interview/hire anyone from the list.

    Final Selection Process: You must receive a score of 75% or higher to pass the assessment and be considered for the position. Those who pass will be placed on an eligible list and all will be notified of their status. A Hiring Manager will consider those applicants eligible for hire. You will be notified if you are invited to participate in the final selection process which may include an interview, job simulation, work sample submission, or other evaluation method.
