Corrections Specialist 4 - Section 2Community Corrections Division

[DOC WFSE Monthly Salary Range 64: $6,665.00 to $8,966.00]
Our agency is looking to INTERNALLY fill one full-time, non-permanent Corrections Specialist 4 (CS4) position within the Community Corrections Division (CCD). This position works for Graduated Reentry (GRE) Combined Screening located at 916 North 16th Avenue, Yakima WA 98902. This non-permanent appointment is expected to last about six months. Although this position may end up teleworking full-time, occasional travel to field offices, Reentry Centers, and facilities within Section 2 will be required.
This position will develop and maintain a process of identification, screening, and will transfer individuals who have committed a crime onto electronic monitoring who are completing their prison sentences at home and participating in Reentry services identified by that screening process. This includes working their families, community agencies, other state agencies, and cross divisional collaboration to support Reenty Centers and Graduated Reentry. Work hours: 0800-1700, Monday-Friday.

Requirements
- Identify eligible incarcerated individuals for participation in partial confinement programs for Graduated Reentry and Reentry Centers.
- Provide information to staff in Reentry Center and GRE Units, as well as educate internal and external stakeholders.
- Communicate with stakeholders, community, and incarcerated individuals.

Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR ALL CASES LISTED BELOW- Current, permanent WA State Department of Corrections (DOC) employee.
- Must possess and maintain an unrestricted vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Washington.
- AND must have at least one year of experience screening cases for partial confinement OR three years of professional experience as a case manager* (in the last 5 years) within WA DOC which includes development or approval of Custody Facility Plans with recommendations for promotion and demotion of custody levels AND at least three of the following:
- Writing reports.
- Assessing cases and making recommendations.
- Referring people to appropriate resources.
- Presenting cases in court, hearings or to a committee.
AND YOU MUST ALSO POSSESS ONE OF THE FOLLOWING CASES- Four years of experience as a Community Corrections Officer, Correctional Specialist, or Classification Counselor within WA DOC.
OR- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university whose accreditation is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), or foreign equivalent.
OR- Equivalent combination of qualifying higher education and/or experience totaling seven years.
*Professional case management includes activities such as assessment of risk factors; designing, monitoring, and/or facilitating treatment plans; determining and making referrals to resources as appropriate (chemical dependency, substance abuse, family counseling, job training assistance, etc.); maintaining official records and tracking client progress/compliance.In addition to the above, this position requires demonstrated competency (gained through education, experience, or a combination thereof) in the following areas:- Community Relationships - Participates in the formation and maintenance of successful relationships with criminal justice partners, other state agencies, and community resources.
- Observation - Observes and strategizes personal response based on environmental conditions and human behavior.
- Stress Tolerance - Remains calm and rational while handling difficult situations to include, but not limited to volatile, threatening, or other crisis/emergency situations. Expertly intervenes in response to threats.
- Professional Standards - Knows and applies community corrections related law, policy, procedure, and practice. Adheres to productivity standards and timelines established by law and policy. Identifies own training needs and proactively seeks training opportunities.
- Adaptability - Incorporates new information into an existing framework of understanding. Accepts change and supports the Agency through changes in law, policy, and procedure.
Desirable Qualifications- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university whose accreditation is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), or foreign equivalent.
- Two years of experience screening cases for partial confinement OR three years of experience as a case manager within the WA State Department of Corrections which includes development or approval of Custody Facility Plans with recommendations for promotion or demotion of custody levels and at least three of the following:
- Writing reports
- Assessing cases and making recommendations
- Referring people to appropriate resources
- Presenting cases in court, hearings or to a committee
If selected for hire, you may be required to meet the following SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS and CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:- Receipt of official, sealed transcripts within the first 30 days of employment.
- Complete a felony disclosure form prior to employment and submit to a criminal background check.
- Successfully complete, within mandated timeframes, employee orientation and all other mandatory annual, in-service, and other required training.
- Become familiar and comply with all department policies and procedures and Collective Bargaining Agreements, as applicable.

The salary range listed in the job posting includes steps A-M. Within a permanent salary range, step M is a longevity step, it is typically gained six years after being assigned to step L.

Telework DetailsThis position may be allocated for full-time telework. If approved, work may be performed from your home or another offsite location within the State of Washington using a reliable internet or cellular hot spot service at that time. Employees are expected to perform assigned duties in a safe manner; to take proper care of all state-issued equipment; and maintain confidentiality of all information in possession while working offsite.
Employees will be required to commute to a Department of Corrections facility or field office as business requires to potentially include components of the onboarding process. More information will be provided later.
