This job involves helping run programs and services in a correctional facility, such as assessing new inmates, conducting interviews to understand their needs and risks, and creating plans to support rehabilitation.
It also includes writing reports, guiding staff, and occasionally assisting with security tasks.

Minimum Special Hiring Rate: $ 40,702.00
Under general supervision, performs work at the full performance level in the implementation and evaluation of and technical assistance for Programs/Services characteristic of Division of Corrections or the Regional Jail and Correctional Facility Authority.
Performs the full range of specialized tasks relating to the program area to include analysis and comprehension of Program/Services regulations, development and implementation of action plans to achieve desired results, coordination and collaboration with inter and intra agency personnel, writing program procedure manuals, compilation of regular and special reports on program status and the signing and review of work to support staff or other specialist(s).
Although regulations, methods and procedures in the program area are available, employees may exercise independent judgment and positions.
Specific duties include but are not limited to: Complete all required testing/assessments for intake inmates within the established time frames.
Completes additional crime-specific assessments as appropriate. Assist with inmate interviews designed to obtain background information and to identify strengths, risks, and needs.
Completes testing at Regional Jails as assigned by the Central Office Inmate Movement Coordinator. Performs related work as required. Assist in security post as needed.

In accordance with SPB 3088 effective 10/7/23, $5000 will be added to the minimum starting rate of pay for all classifications within a Critical Vacancy Pay Supplemental Facility.
Critical Vacancy Pay Facilities: Huttonsville Correctional Center and Jail, Mount Olive Correctional Complex and Jail, Western Regional Jail and Corrections Facility, Northern Correctional Facility (including Ohio County Correctional Center), Northern Regional Jail and Correctional Facility, Chick Buckbee Juvenile Center, Vicki Douglas Juvenile Center, Potomac Highlands Regional Jail and Correctional Facility, and Eastern Regional Jail and Corrections Facility (including Martinsburg Correctional Center) (SPB 3088).

Training: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice, corrections, social work or related behavioral or social science field.
OR
Substitution: Additional full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience as described below may substitute for the required training at a rate of one (1) year of experience for every thirty (30) semester hours of required training.
AND
Experience: Two (2) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid professional experience in a corrections, probation/parole, law enforcement, social work, recreation, religion or related behavioral or social science field.
OR
Substitution: Graduate coursework from an accredited college or university in criminal justice, corrections, social work or related behavioral or social science field may substitute for the required experience at the rate of fifteen (15) semester hours of training for every one (1) year of experience.
Preference will be given to applicants who have a bachelor’s degree in one of the areas listed above in the required training.
