Job Description

Summary

This job involves working with young people in trouble with the law at a youth center in Greenbrier County, West Virginia, where you'll provide counseling, create treatment plans, gather background information, and connect juveniles with families, courts, and support services.

You'll also write reports for courts and act as a positive example to help them overcome challenges.

Key Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in criminal justice, corrections, psychology, sociology, counseling, criminology, social work, or a related field
  • Two years of full-time paid experience in inmate counseling, security, treatment in corrections, or as a probation/parole officer, mental health counselor, or social worker
  • Substitution: Experience in corrections programming or treatment can replace the education requirement on a year-for-year basis
  • Substitution: Master's degree in criminal justice, corrections, social work, or related behavioral science can replace the experience requirement on a year-for-year basis
  • Alternative substitution: Five years of experience as a Correctional Officer 2 or higher
  • Ability to work under general supervision as part of a team handling a caseload of juveniles
  • Strong skills in report writing, case history development, and liaising with courts, families, and treatment providers

Full Job Description

Under general supervision, the Corrections Case Manager will function as a member of a team providing services to an assigned caseload of juveniles.

The work of the Corrections Case Manager will consist of providing individual and/or group counseling, assistance in the development of and then implementation of treatment programs, developing case histories, gathering social and placement history, treatment, and court information on juveniles, writing reports and recommendations regarding juvenile behavior, placement, and performance for the circuit courts, acting as a role model for the juvenile as well as serving as the liaison between the juvenile, legal representatives, family members, treatment providers, and/or court officials.

Compiles information for juveniles’ involvement in crime and criminal activities, records database statistics, and recommends treatment programs to assist the juvenile in controlling and overcoming problems.

Will perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Substitution: Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice, corrections, social work or related behavioral science field may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Substitution for required training and experience:
Five years of experience at a Correctional Officer 2 or higher.
