Job Description

Summary

This job involves working with young people in trouble with the law at a youth center in Wood County, West Virginia, where you'll provide counseling, create treatment plans, gather background information, and write reports for courts while acting as a supportive role model and connecting families with services.

It's a team-based role focused on helping juveniles overcome problems and stay out of crime.

A good fit would be someone with a background in counseling or social work who is patient, organized, and passionate about supporting at-risk youth.

Key Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in criminal justice, corrections, psychology, sociology, counseling, criminology, social work, or a related field
  • Two years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in inmate counseling, security, treatment in a correctional setting, or as a probation/parole officer, mental health counselor, or social worker
  • Substitution: Experience in corrections programming or treatment may replace required training on a year-for-year basis
  • Substitution: Master's degree in criminal justice, corrections, social work, or related behavioral science field may replace required experience on a year-for-year basis
  • Ability to provide individual and group counseling to juveniles
  • Skills in developing case histories, treatment programs, and court reports
  • Must submit official transcripts, training/licensure, or Veterans documentation if applicable

Full Job Description

Under general supervision, the Corrections Case Manager will function as a member of a team providing services to an assigned caseload of juveniles.

The work of the Corrections Case Manager will consist of providing individual and/or group counseling, assistance in the development of and then implementation of treatment programs, developing case histories, gathering social and placement history, treatment, and court information on juveniles, writing reports and recommendations regarding juvenile behavior, placement, and performance for the circuit courts, acting as a role model for the juvenile as well as serving as the liaison between the juvenile, legal representatives, family members, treatment providers, and/or court officials.

Compiles information for juveniles’ involvement in crime and criminal activities, records database statistics, and recommends treatment programs to assist the juvenile in controlling and overcoming problems.

Will perform other duties as assigned.
