Summary

This job involves working with young people in a juvenile detention center, helping them through counseling, creating treatment plans, and connecting them with family and court systems to address their needs and behavior.

  • Two years of full-time paid experience in inmate counseling, security, treatment in a correctional setting, or as a probation/parole officer, mental health counselor, or social worker
  • Substitution: Relevant experience in corrections programming or treatment can replace the education requirement on a year-for-year basis
  • Substitution: A Master's Degree in criminal justice, corrections, social work, or a related behavioral science field can replace the experience requirement on a year-for-year basis
  • Ability to provide individual and group counseling to juvenile residents
  • Skills in developing case histories, writing reports, and recommending treatment programs
  • Experience acting as a liaison between residents, families, treatment providers, and court officials

Full Job Description


Under general supervision, the Corrections Case Manager will function as a member of a team providing services to an assigned caseload of juvenile residents living in a unit in a West Virginia Juvenile Correctional or Detention Facility.

The work of the Corrections Case Manager will focus on the overall management of the resident and ensuring their needs are met.

The Case Manager will get to know each youth in their facility and could be required to provide individual and/or group counseling.

Assists in the development of and then implementation of treatment programs, developing case histories, gathering collateral information on placement, treatment, and court information on juvenile residents, writing reports and recommendations regarding resident behavior, placement, and performance for the circuit courts, controlling resident movement, acting as a role model for the resident as well as serving as the liaison between the resident and facility, legal representatives, family members, treatment providers, and/or court officials.

Compiles information, analyzes causal factors for the resident’s involvement in crime and criminal activities, records database statistics, and recommends treatment programs to assist the resident in controlling and overcoming concerning behavior.

Will perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Training: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in criminal justice, corrections, psychology, sociology, counseling, counseling and guidance, criminology, social work or related field.

Substitution: Experience in an area of corrections programming or treatment may be substituted for the required training on a year-for-year basis.

Experience:
Two years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in inmate counseling, security or treatment in a correctional setting or in counseling, counseling and guidance, as a probation and parole officer, mental health counselor or social worker.
Substitution: Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice, corrections, social work or related behavioral science field may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Substitution for required training and experience: Five years of experience at a Correctional Officer 2 or higher
