Summary

This role involves coordinating outreach efforts to ensure construction projects in Detroit hire at least 51% local residents and comply with anti-discrimination laws and city executive orders.

The coordinator will visit job sites, maintain databases of employers and workers, monitor compliance, and provide updates to leadership while helping connect Detroit residents to skilled trade jobs.

Construction Outreach Coordinator

The purpose of this class is to plan, coordinate and facilitate activities related to the enforcement of prevailing laws and City Executive Orders that establish policy against discrimination and harassment, and violence in the workplace.

Requirements

  • Ensure Developer compliance regarding 51% bona-fide Detroiters working on construction projects under Executive Order 2024-2.
  • In coordination with CRIO Business Opportunity Team, conduct site-visits for construction businesses applying for their annual Detroit Based and/or Minority Owned business certification.
  • Maintain database of construction industry employers and Detroit residents looking to enter the Construction Skilled Trades.
  • Ensure that General Contractors are utilizing all available resources to employee Detroit residents.
  • Monitor Detroit residents working on construction sites under Executive Order 2024-2.
  • Monitor and Enforce the Skilled Trade Employment Program (STEP) and report on annual compliance status.
  • Develop relevant processes and procedures to tract employers, workers, and results of site visits, and the STEP program.
  • Provide regular written and oral updates to CRIO’s leadership
  • Research career paths for the construction industry.
  • Respond to Construction Outreach Hotline request.
  • Assess General Contractor workforce needs for projects under Executive Order 2024-2.
  • Conduct interviews with Detroit resident workers on construction projects.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in human resources, employee relations, public administration, business management, business administration or a related field. Advanced training or continuing education in human resources management or labor laws and practices preferred.

Three (3) years of experience facilitating and/or providing technical support in the management of human resources and/or labor relations services in multiple functional areas including, but not limited to, work place violence and discrimination and harassment or in the adjudication of legal matters related to the provision of those services.


PREFERRED

  • Experience leading community outreach initiatives in the city of Detroit.
  • Strong knowledge of best practices and current trends related to vocational, employability and workforce development programming for adults.
  • Knowledge of the current development landscape in the city of Detroit.
  • Proven ability to communicate and work with a diverse group of individuals.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of data management systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
