Full Job Description
Representing Tarrant County, the Construction Inspector performs professional-level duties mainly consisting of subdivision construction inspection and providing reliable information to the Transportation Services Department concerning various in-the-field issues as needed. The inspection function is to ensure contractors build subdivision roadways, bridges and related drainage structures according to approved plans and inspection. The informational function is to provide knowledgeable input related to safety, roadway maintenance and conditions, along with other data that is needed by Transportation Services or the Precincts.

Requirements
- Inspects construction methods and workmanship on new subdivision roads, bridges, and related structures. Performs professional-level analysis, recommends actions and may participate in the implementation of programs, policies or other professional construction-related activities.
- Troubleshoots and resolves routine construction problems and issues including traffic control and drainage problems.
- Communicates with appropriate staff, contractors or citizens in the performance of duties.
- Documents and maintains required records and statistics as they pertain to construction activities including maintaining a daily log of activities and inspection reports.
- Ensures compliance with any or all applicable laws, statutes, regulations, and policies.
- Reviews subdivision construction plans to ensure constructability.
- May recommend and develop departmental procedures and policies.
- Inspects materials and equipment. Conducts and/or monitors needed laboratory tests to ensure construction materials and methods meet specifications.
- Inspects and recommends rework procedures for subdivision during maintenance period.
- Performs field inspection of utility construction to ensure compliance with utility permits, proper location of lines, and satisfactory construction methods.
- Attends preconstruction meetings for subdivisions and Precinct-contracted projects.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent. Five to ten (5-10) years experience in surveying, road construction, and civil engineering or inspection procedures. Knowledge of civil engineering, mathematics, engineering specifications, and roadway construction methods. Knowledge and ability to read and interpret construction plans.

While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is regularly required to bend, climb, keyboard, lift below the waist, tolerate hot and cold outside temperatures, pull, push, sit, squat, stand, stoop, talk, use his/her hands, drive a vehicle, walk, walk on an incline, and work alone. Incumbent needs to be alert due to working around heavy construction equipment on occasion.
