This job involves reviewing inmate records, assessing their eligibility for programs and assignments, and managing a group of about 250 inmates in a work release facility to help with their rehabilitation and reintegration.
It requires interviewing inmates, handling inquiries from officials, and using computer systems to track their histories.
A good fit would be someone organized and empathetic with experience in administration or corrections, who can handle sensitive information and work in a structured government environment.
Evaluates inmate records to determine eligibility for institutional assignments, custody changes, job assignments and treatment program.
Coordinate an equitable classification system for a caseload of approximately 250 inmates.
Conducts periodic reviews and evaluates inmates’ progress. Interviews inmates relating to their general institutional adjustment or related problems.
Responds orally and/or through written correspondence to inquiries of information on inmates by departmental officials and other agencies.
Operates the SCDC computer to ascertain information pertaining to inmates social criminal, educational and family histories.
State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:
A high school diploma and related experience. A bachelor’s degree may be substituted for the required related experience.
SCDC Minimum Requirements:
A bachelor's degree;
OR
An associate's degree and any one (1) year combination of administrative and/or correctional experience.
OR
A high school diploma and any two (2) years combination of administrative and/or correctional experience.
