Job Description

Summary

This role serves as the Chief of Staff in a high-level Department of Defense office focused on ensuring the military's overall readiness and personnel support.

It involves advising top leaders, managing programs, and leading teams to handle complex policy and operational issues.

Ideal candidates are experienced senior executives with strong leadership, communication, and strategic skills, often from military or government backgrounds.

Full Job Description

This position is located in the Office of the Assistant Secretary of War for Readiness (OASW(R)), a Component within the Office of the Under Secretary of War for Personnel and Readiness (USW(P&R)).

The ASW(R) serves as the principal advisor to the USW (P&R) on all matters concerning the readiness of the Total Force.

In order to qualify for this position, you must meet the requirements described below.

Managerial ability, leadership skills, and ability to work with top management and senior level officials.

Expert communication skill to make persuasive recommendations and negotiate proposals, compromises on opposing positions.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Incumbent typical work assignments may include the following: Supervises the execution of the automated correspondence and tracking management system (CA TMS) that tracks, files, controls, archives and researches correspondence within the Office of the ASW(R); this includes oversight of the assignment of information/action, suspense, coordination, and dispatch on all communications involving the OUSW(P&R) and ASW(R).

Manages the review of OASW(R) staff responses to ensure quality control in terms of content, formats, and structures, to include preparing responses.

Maintain full managerial authority and oversees the development, analysis, and selection of appropriate information for operating procedures on a wide variety of topics.

Formulates policies and procedures, directs and coordinates staff activities in carrying out the functions of the Chief of Staff, and serves as the Liaison between the office and senior civilian and military leaders.

Establishes, implements and monitors an aggressive program of professional development for support staff to ensure effective utilization of modem state of the art methods and techniques.
