Job Description

Summary

This job involves helping a licensed electrician with electrical maintenance in St.

Louis County parks and facilities, such as replacing lights, outlets, and switches, while also supporting larger projects and events.

It includes some cleaning duties and working at heights using lifts.

A good fit would be someone with hands-on experience in building trades, who is reliable, physically fit, and eager to learn more about electrical work.

Full Job Description

St. Louis County Department of Parks and Recreation is seeking a skilled Building Systems Mechanic to assist the licensed electrician on staff.

The individual will work in a support roll on projects and large events in addition to working independently to perform electric maintenance that does not require licensure, such as changing light fixtures, outlets, and switches.

The typical starting salary range is $21.49 - $25.79 hourly depending on the candidate's qualifications and experience as well as budgetary considerations.

Requirements

Provide maintenance support and repair for County facilities.

Perform electric maintenance that does not require licensure, such as changing light fixtures, outlets, and switches.

Work as support on projects and large events as needed.

Working on aerial platform lifts for lighting fixture installs and or repair, these elevations can exceed 75 feet at times.

Perform custodial tasks associated with the care and cleaning of County facilities.

Perform other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications

Graduation from Technical School or completion of a formal apprenticeship in a skilled building systems trade, plus three years of related experience or any equivalent combination of training and experience.

Possession of a valid Driver’s License.

Basic understanding of electrical systems and familiarity with hand/power tools is required.

Candidate must understand and follow safety standards, have strong communication skills, and physical stamina to lift heavy objects, work in confined spaces or uneven surfaces, and willingness to learn on the job.

SELECTION AND APPOINTMENT: A selection committee will evaluate the qualifications of each applicant which will include recentness and appropriateness of the applicant's education and experience, answers to the supplemental questions, results of employment references investigated and any other appropriate information available. The selection committee will admit to the interview only those persons who possess the most job related qualifications and may establish admittance criteria beyond the minimum qualifications stated above.

Responses provided to the interview questions listed under the Supplemental Question heading of this posting will comprise 100% of the applicant's earned grade. A candidate must earn a qualifying grade of 70 or more on the interview to be eligible for appointment. Once questions are scored, an email will be sent to the address on file with instructions on how to complete and submit a Conviction Questionnaire. Candidates have 3 days to complete the required questionnaire.

The five top ranking candidates, based on the final grade, will be certified to the Department Director/Appointing Authority who will make the final decision.

All applicants conditionally offered a merit position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Screening will be performed by a reputable clinical laboratory. The cost of screening will be covered by the County.
