Summary

This job involves helping to create and manage budgets for a military medical center, tracking spending, and preparing financial reports to ensure resources are used properly.

Entry-level federal experience is helpful, but education in related fields can qualify you too.

About the Position: This position is located at Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, Texas. A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting with evaluating the program's budget, monitoring expenditures allocation, and developing financial reports.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Accounting, Business, or Finance.

OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12.

Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. Major Duties:

  • Participate in the formulation of budget estimates and financial/budget reports.
  • Analyze and coordinate with the Chief, Program and Budget, the guidance from higher headquarters to determine applicability to designated portions of the budget.
  • Analyze activity plans for overall realism or projections and proper balance and relationship of resources within selected areas.
  • Perform analyses and establishes targets/goals for selected program elements based on guidance from higher headquarters, supervisor, executive program and budget activity committee and historical data.
  • Review financial reports identifying and analyzing deviations from program. Identifies problems, communicates with Program Directors, Resource Advisors and Department Chiefs, and compiles status of funds using various sources of financial data.
  • Prepare a variety of financial reports covering status of funds, expenses, reimbursements and obligations.
