Summary

This job is for an instructor in an automotive technology program at a community college, where you'll teach students hands-on skills to prepare them for certifications in car repair and maintenance.

You'll develop lessons, guide students through projects, evaluate their progress, and help with recruiting and job placement.

It's a great fit for experienced auto technicians who enjoy teaching and have strong communication skills.

Key Requirements

Full Job Description


TTC’s Automotive Technology program prepares students to become certified in each specialty area by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE). The program is taught by ASE Master Automotive Technicians and includes the most up-to-date training.


The Automotive Instructor position will work under minimal instruction/supervision within the Dean and Associate Dean of Manufacturing and Maintenance. The duties will include:

  • Course development.
  • Teaching courses.
  • Designing and developing curriculum.
  • Providing a systematic plan for delivering instruction.
  • Evaluating student performance and advising students.


Assists with student recruitment, retention, and job placement efforts.

Other job requirements include, but are not limited to, attention to work quality, details and deadlines; working with work-study students and supervising live work projects with students; and working with minimum supervision.

Requirements

This position requires a bachelor's degree or an associate degree in automotive technology or a related field AND current ASE master automobile technician certification. Applicants are required to submit certifications with the application. A valid South Carolina driver's license is also required. Candidates without a degree must complete an associate degree in automotive technology within three (3) years of hire.

Qualifications

Two (2) years of teaching and work experience in the automotive technology career field are preferred. Preference will also be given to candidates with a documented electric vehicle (BEV or PHEVE), automatic transmission experience, and/or engine management and engine repair expertise. Candidate must have excellent computer skills and knowledge of software applications. Excellent communication and customer service skills are essential.
