The Department of Transportation's Carbon County Maintenance Organization has an Automotive Mechanic position that could be ideal for you. This role is essential for the upkeep and repair of various hand tools, as well as a fleet of construction equipment and trucks that operate on both gasoline and diesel engines, featuring manual and automatic transmissions. Requirements
In this role, you will be tasked with the skilled maintenance and repair of a variety of vehicles, including cars, trucks, tractors, and construction equipment like rollers, sweepers, and mixers, as well as powered hand tools. Your responsibilities will involve repairing diesel equipment, focusing on tasks such as oil changes, automotive diagnostics, tune-ups, tire replacements, and fixing engine sub-assemblies, cooling systems, and electrical systems, while excluding diagnostics and parts rebuilding for air brake and diesel engine fuel injection systems.
You will also implement a preventive maintenance program and conduct official state safety and emissions inspections, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards by road testing vehicles and maintaining accurate inspection records. Additionally, your work will include routine servicing of diesel equipment, such as oil changes and filter replacements, along with repairs to various systems like cooling, suspension, and driveline.
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Overtime, dual-shift, and holiday shifts may be required during storm operations
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary:
Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $48,841 (before taxes).

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:- Four years of experience in the automotive mechanic trade; or
- Completion of an approved apprenticeship; or
- Any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledges, skills, and abilities.
Special Requirements:
- You must be in possession of a valid driver's license which is not under suspension on the first day of employment.
- You must be in possession of a valid
Class 1, 4, or 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment.
Additional Requirement:- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Preferred Qualification (not required):- Ability to operate manual transmission equipped vehicles.
