If you are an automotive mechanic who prioritizes safety and is passionate about delivering excellent service, the Department of Transportation's Butler County Maintenance Organization has a great opportunity for you. We are looking for someone to fill an Automotive Mechanic position that focuses on maintaining and repairing a variety of hand tools, as well as a fleet of construction equipment and trucks powered by both gasoline and diesel engines, including those with manual and automatic transmissions. By joining this team, you will contribute significantly to the maintenance of Pennsylvania’s transportation network while enjoying a supportive and dynamic work atmosphere.

Requirements

In this position, you will be responsible for the skilled maintenance and repair of a diverse range of vehicles, including cars, trucks, tractors, and various construction equipment such as rollers, sweepers, and mixers, as well as powered hand tools. Your duties will include performing repairs on diesel equipment, excluding diagnostics, parts rebuilding, and repairs related to the air brake system and diesel engine fuel injection systems. You will also implement a preventive maintenance program, which encompasses oil changes, automotive diagnostics, tune-ups, tire replacements, and repairs to engine sub-assemblies, cooling systems, suspension, electrical systems, heating and air conditioning, fuel systems, brakes, steering, and driveline systems.

Additionally, you will conduct official state safety and emissions inspections on vehicles within your licensing class, ensuring that all repairs meet regulatory specifications. This includes road testing vehicles, completing inspection stickers, and maintaining accurate State Inspection Records and associated documentation. Your work on diesel equipment will involve routine oil changes, filter servicing, and the replacement of components such as water pumps and gaskets, along with repairs to electrical systems, cooling systems, suspension, and driveline systems.


Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Travel, overtime, and shift work required. Work hours subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $48,841 (before taxes).

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • Four years of experience in the automotive mechanic trade; or
  • Completion of an approved apprenticeship; or
  • Any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledges, skills, and abilities.


Special Requirements:

  • You must be in possession of a valid driver's license which is not under suspension.
  • You must be in possession of a valid Class 1 Inspection Mechanic certificate or equivalent that allows inspection for Class 1 vehicles.

Additional Requirement:
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
