  • Ability to conduct state safety and emissions inspections, road-test vehicles, and maintain accurate records
  • Full-time availability for 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM schedule, with possible overtime, travel, shift work, and no telework option

The Department of Transportation’s Jefferson County Maintenance Organization is seeking an Automotive Mechanic, and this could be the perfect fit for your skills. In this role, you’ll be responsible for maintaining and repairing a wide range of hand tools, as well as a fleet of construction equipment and trucks powered by both gasoline and diesel engines, featuring manual and automatic transmissions. Requirements

In this role, you will perform skilled maintenance and repair on a wide variety of vehicles, including cars, trucks, tractors, and construction equipment such as rollers, sweepers, mixers, and powered hand tools. Your responsibilities include repairing diesel equipment, with the exception of diagnostics, parts rebuilding, and work involving air brake systems or diesel engine fuel injection systems. You will also carry out preventive maintenance tasks such as oil changes, basic automotive diagnostics, tune-ups, tire replacements, and repairs to engine sub-assemblies, cooling systems, suspension, electrical systems, heating and air conditioning, fuel systems, brakes, steering components, and driveline systems.

You will conduct official state safety and emissions inspections on vehicles within your licensing class, ensuring all repairs meet regulatory standards. This includes road-testing vehicles, completing inspection stickers, and maintaining accurate State Inspection Records and related documentation. Your work on diesel equipment will involve routine oil and filter changes, servicing components such as water pumps and gaskets, and performing repairs to electrical, cooling, suspension, and driveline systems.


Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Travel, overtime, and shift work required. Work hours subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employments within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employments at the starting annual salary of $48,841.00 (before taxes).

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • Four years of experience in the automotive mechanic trade; or
  • Completion of an approved apprenticeship; or
  • Any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledges, skills, and abilities.


Special Requirements:

  • You must be in possession of a valid driver's license which is not under suspension.
  • You must be in possession of a valid Class 1 Inspection Mechanic certificate or equivalent that allows inspection for Class 1 vehicles.

Additional Requirement:
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
