Full Job Description

Under general direction, to plan, direct, and coordinate the field operations involved in the construction and maintenance of streets, alleys, sidewalks, and related structures; and to perform related work as required.

Requirements

  • In accordance with established policies for both general and specific assignments, and subject to review of progress and activity reports, but with considerable latitude for independent action and judgment, and with responsibility for most effective application of available resources, plans and coordinates the field construction and maintenance of streets, alleys, sidewalks, bridges and related structures, and assists in the general administration of the division by performing tasks typified by the following examples.
  • Determines priority of jobs.
  • Approves work schedules.
  • Assigns personnel.
  • Inspects work during progress and upon completion.
  • Instructs subordinate supervisors in policies, procedures and methods.
  • Devises new and improved methods and procedures.
  • Prepares and reviews reports of progress, costs, and personnel and equipment needs.
  • Investigates special problems and implements solutions.
  • Obtains and analyzes data to determine where and how to reduce costs recommends and implements equipment and work procedures changes.
  • Prepares and checks cost estimates of proposed work.
  • Assists in preparing division budget estimates.
  • Obtains personnel and equipment for special emergency work.
  • Assists in preparing scheduled and special reports.
  • Represents the division head as directed.

Qualifications

Qualifications (required):
  • Education equivalent to completion of two (2) yearsat a university of recognized standing in acivil, structural,or mechanical engineering curriculum.
  • Considerable experience in construction and maintenance of streets, sidewalks, and alleys, a reasonable portion of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity.
Qualifications (preferred):
  • Graduation from a university of recognized standing in a civil, structural or mechanical engineering curriculum.
