This job involves helping plan and estimate repairs for air conditioning and heating systems in naval facilities, including inspecting equipment, gathering data for parts, and reading blueprints to support maintenance work.
It's a hands-on role that combines technical skills in HVAC systems with some planning duties, performed in various indoor and outdoor settings.
A good fit would be someone with practical experience as a mechanic who is physically fit, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in challenging environments like high places or noisy areas.
You will serve as an ASSISTANT PLANNER AND ESTIMATOR (AIR CONDITIONING EQUIPMENT MECHANIC) in the FACILITIES DEPARTMENT of NAVAL WAR COLLEGE.
Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.
Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to provide production support services as an Assistant Planner and Estimator (Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic) as demonstrated by: 1) Gathering information for repairs and construction associated with HVAC&R systems; 2) Collecting data to assist with requests for material procurement; and 3) Interpreting and applying building plans and blueprints.

The incumbent is required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, crawl, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions and frequently lifts and carries tools, equipment, and parts that weigh up to 50 pounds.
The incumbent works in shop environments, office and executive spaces, and outside job sites. The incumbent stands for extended periods while operating machinery.
The work requires considerable bending, kneeling, stooping, and maneuvering into and out of specific locations while dismantling and reassembling.
Strenuous physical exertion is sometimes required when handling heavy and bulky materials at the various work sites throughout the NWC.
The position requires the use of manual or portable power tools for extended periods in uncomfortable positions.
Working Conditions: The work is performed both inside and outside in areas that may vary from executive offices to areas that are noisy, dirty, and smoky.
Sometimes required to make repairs and installations in bad weather; in work areas that are noisy, dirty, dusty, and greasy; on scaffolding or personnel lifts and tops of buildings at heights; and in close quarters.
Occasionally exposed to the possibility of injury from falling, electrical shock, burns, broken bones, and rotary devices. Frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises.
There is discomfort when wearing protective clothing.
Some work is performed in shop areas where the worker is exposed to moderate or high noise levels from operating machinery, sawdust in the air, glue fumes, and hazards associated with mechanical systems and related power equipment.
