Full Job Description

This position works in the Iowa Department of Corrections (DOC) Central Office and assists the Deputy Director of Institutional Operations with day-to-day operational administration.

The role also provides high-level administrative support to other Central Office executive leadership by managing correspondence, scheduling meetings and travel, and preparing administrative documentation.

This position assists with coordinating and developing all departmental policies, which includes an extensive review process and facilitating interdepartmental stakeholder engagement.

Additional duties include assisting with special projects such as annual reports and official presentations; collaborating with external stakeholders including other federal and state agencies; handling requests for information and guidance from the public; and managing purchasing cards used for travel / supply orders.

The position is responsible for inputting confidential information into the ICON database, such as offender grievances.
It also involves intern supervisory duties, including hiring, training, and evaluating interns from the Iowa Correctional Institution for Women (ICIW).

The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM and is not available for remote work due to onsite duty requirements.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:
  1. Two years of full-time work experience in general office, clerical, data entry/processing, or related work.
  2. A total of two years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in any field equals one year of full-time experience.
  3. Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes six months of full-time work as an Administrative Support Assistant 2 or eighteen months of full-time work as an Administrative Support Assistant 1.
