Job Description

Summary

This job involves creating and managing air traffic control procedures for airspace in Antarctica to support scientific research, including planning airspace use, negotiating operational solutions, and updating relevant policies.

It requires hands-on experience in air traffic control operations and staying qualified to work in control facilities.

A good fit would be someone with a strong background in aviation safety, regulatory knowledge, and the ability to communicate effectively with government and external partners in challenging environments.

Key Requirements

  • At least one year of specialized experience at GS-12 level or equivalent, including expertise in air traffic control with radar and non-radar operations and developing airspace management procedures
  • Graduate of FAA or DoD equivalent air traffic control school
  • Possess a valid Control Tower Operator Certificate
  • Previously qualified on a position separating two or more aircraft simultaneously in a radar environment
  • Knowledge of Federal Aviation Administration regulations and experience ensuring operational compliance
  • Strong skills in written and oral communications for meetings, conferences, and interactions with stakeholders and agencies
  • Ability to qualify and remain current at various air traffic control facilities and serve as a Designated Examiner

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or NO-04 pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: expertise in Air Traffic Control, including radar and non-radar operations, and developing airspace management procedures.

Key qualifications include knowledge of Federal Aviation Administration regulations, agency collaboration, and experience in ensuring operational compliance.

AND Must be a graduate of FAA or DoD equivalent air traffic control school. Must possess a Control Tower Operator Certificate.

Must be previously qualified on a position which was responsible for separating two or more aircraft simultaneously in a Radar environment.

AND Must possess skills in written and oral communications, to include formal/informal meetings, conferences, public forums, and telephone conversations with civilians, external stakeholders and other government agencies.

  • You will develop Air Traffic Control procedures for airspace requirements in Antarctica in support of the National Science Foundation.
  • You will plan and manage the establishment and control of assigned airspace.
  • You will develop and negotiate solutions to operational concepts to establish control for the management and enforcement of assigned airspace.
  • You will recommend and develop appropriate modifications to policies, regulations, agreements, and other directives that bear upon or impact operational air traffic requirements affecting assigned airspace.
  • You will be required to qualify and remain current at various Air Traffic Control facilities as deemed appropriate by management and to perform duties as a Designated Examiner for all Air Traffic Control personnel.
