This position is located in the Legislative Affairs / Constituent Services Unit, Headquarters - Blythewood, SC.




Responsibilities of the Constituent Services Specialist

• Serves as a liaison with VIPs, including state lawmakers and the Governor’s Office, to assist constituents and coordinate with state and federal officials and agencies.
• Handles the reporting of complaints, misinformation, and conflicts related to SCDMV policies and procedures.
• Works to identify and implement solutions to resolve customer issues when appropriate.
• Provides assistance to SCDMV branch offices in resolving complex constituent issues, ensuring satisfactory resolution when possible.
• Handles more involved customer complaints by identifying solutions and supporting branch staff in delivering effective outcomes.
• Assist in answering the constituent services line and providing appropriate resolution for customer issues.
• Research, analyzes, and prepares formal written responses via letter or email to explain appropriate resolutions.
• Assists individuals seeking to reestablish driving privileges by providing well-researched reports outlining the proper steps and requirements.
• Track, process and approve/deny late registration penalty refunds.
• Prepare correspondence files for scanning.
• Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements

• A high school diploma and work experience that is directly related to the area of employment. A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the related work experience.

Additional Requirements

• Knowledge of laws, regulations, policies and procedures relevant to the Department of Motor Vehicles. Ability to exercise judgement and discretion. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations, policies and procedures. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written and must be able to effectively communicate with individuals at all organizational levels. Excellent computer skills and must be proficient with MS Windows, MS Word, and MS Excel.
• Under limited supervision, employee takes initiative and exercises sound judgement and discretion. Professional level involving complex programs, projects and communications.
• Works closely with department management, recommends programs and assessments and provides feedback to management.
• Normal work week will consist of 37.50 hours. Limited extended hours may be required to meet job requirements. Climate controlled office setting.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma and at least four (4) years of relevant job experience in administration, business management or support services. A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the work experience on a year for year basis.
