Full Job Description

The position is located at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), in the Oklahoma City VA Medical Center (VAMC) within Fiscal Service.

The primary purpose of the Accounting Tech position is to provide accounting support for the most complex accounts which involve a very large number of organizations and programs, or which require analyses and accounting determinations within a complete accounting system.

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 03/04/2026.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

For a GS-7 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-6. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service.

An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials.

If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement.

In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.

Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.

You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Specialized Experience: To qualify for this Accounting Technician, GS-0525-07, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade, GS-6 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.

Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Performing clerical, assistant, or technician level work in support of a budget, accounting, auditing, fiscal and financial management function; performs budget administration support, financial systems support, cash processing, and accounting technician work.

NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month & year starting and ending dates AND hours worked per week.

Major Duties:

Major duties include but are not limited to: Liquidate payments on obligations in IFCAP.

Ability to analyze numerous accounts, determine the need for the type of adjustments necessary to reconcile and balance accounts. Back-up Agent Cashier.

Liaison with Business Office for beneficiary travel and non-VA payments. Process payments as needed. Compile and distribute weekly reports - from IPPS, etc.

Retrieve, distribute and review progress of daily and weekly rejection reports. Input veteran vendor information. Receive and process receiving reports from Logistics.

Audits and reviews all agent cashier replenishments to assure that all appropriations and monies stated within the replenishment are correct. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Also, duties of filing and running errands may be required. The amount of time sitting at the computer will be 85% of work time. Work Environment: The work is performed in an office setting.

Heat, light, and ventilation are adequate to perform the duties of the job. The area is highly trafficked and the telephone rings frequently.

Maintenance of the security of certain information is required. The office is located at an off-site location away from the main hospital.
