This position serves as an Accounting Technician in the Accounting Section of Fiscal Service.
This posit on performs a variety of duties related to the establishment and maintenance General Ledger Control Accounts and Subsidiary Records for Medical Care and Research Appropriations, General Fund Receipts, To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 02/25/2026.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service.
An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials.
If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement.
In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.
Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: working with general ledger accounts, cost centers, budget object codes, fund control points and other accounting elements, including experience in properly categorizing and utilizing them, experience with Financial Management System (FMS) transactions codes, types, and other miscellaneous coding necessary to affect proper general ledger accounts and subsidiary ledgers and the skill to properly utilize them, experience working with single-year, two-year, and multi-year appropriations, revolving funds, suspense accounts, deposit funds, Treasury accounts, etc.
and the skill to properly utilize them, utilization of payroll budget object codes, analysis accounts, and an understanding of the inter-relationships among them, experience utilizing accounting principles, government accounting, fiscal law, and accrual basis double-entry accounting theory, using policy and procedural manuals, directives, handbooks, guides, Comptroller General Decisions, and many policy and procedure publications while possessing the skill and judgment necessary to interpret and apply this guidance to a vast array of accounting situations, communicating accounting information for the purposes of explaining, reporting, training, recommending accounting actions, or problem resolution including a comprehensive knowledge of personal computers, various automated systems, and a variety of software such as MS Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook , applying time management techniques and having a high degree of organizational skills necessary to complete projects and the work of this position.

Physical Requirements: The work is principally sedentary, in a highly automated environment. lt is usually accomplished while seated at a desk or table.
Some work may require walking in an office or warehouse setting. Work may also require walking and standing in conjunction with travel to and attendance at meetings and conferences.
Incumbent may be required to carry small file boxes into storage, lift a cash box, carry light items or drive a motor vehicle.
Typical safety precautions, such as pulling file drawers, dropping equipment, etc., are to be observed. Electrical safety precautions must be observed in working around computers.

Major Duties:
Duties Include but are not limited to: Prepare monthly reconciliations and adjustments of the following reports: undelivered orders, accrued accounts payable, account receivable, general post funds, personal funds of patients, travel accounts and numerous other general ledger accounts.
Perform work in direct support of an administrative area such as human resources, budget, procurement, purchasing, management analysis, or operating program analysis.
Examine, verify, and maintain financial accounts and accounting data and classifies accounting transactions including the verification of the accuracy and completeness of the accounting data.
Determine the general ledger accounts, journals, and subsidiary accounts affected, and the debit and credit entries to be made, Summarize transactions and prepare control documents or other posting documents reflecting the entries to be made.
Technical responsibility for the maintenance, auditing, and reconciliation of the general and subsidiary ledger accounts, for the preparation of accurate and timely reports, and for the control of funds.
Work Schedule: 8:00am-4:30pm. Monday-Friday Telework: This position may be authorized for telework. Telework eligibility will be discussed during the interview process.
