Job Description

Summary

This job involves overseeing rehabilitation programs and services for young offenders in South Carolina prisons, ensuring everything runs smoothly and follows the rules while working closely with prison staff and outside groups.

Full Job Description

  • Manages the delivery of institutional programming for youthful offenders across SCDC facilities.

  • Ensures all required services are delivered in accordance with statute, policy, and divisional mandates. monitors program completion and compliance with established evidence-based models.

  • Serves as primary liaison between YOPRS and institutional administration, mental health, security, operations, and classification.

  • Ensures programming, documentation, classification decisions, and release recommendations are completed accurately. interprets and applies statutes and policies regarding youthful offenders/juveniles.

  • Ensures compliance with reporting expectations, screening requirements, and program entry/exit procedures.

  • Monitors caseloads, ensuring appropriate services based on risk level, criminogenic needs, and rehabilitative goals.

  • Reviews disciplinary actions, and behavioral patterns.

  • Collaborate with institutions to ensure appropriate responses.

  • Ensures offenders in restrictive housing or lock-up receive modified program access, one-on-one interventions, and documented opportunities for engagement.

  • Coordinates with other agencies and external stakeholders regarding placement, programming requirements, and reentry expectations.

  • Supports collaborative partnerships, including research, evaluation, and community-based initiatives focused on juvenile and youthful offenders.

  • Conducts institutional audits and program reviews to ensure compliance and consistency.

  • Identifies operational issues and develops corrective action plans to standardize services across facilities.

  • Provides policy recommendations to enhance youthful offender programming, classification, and rehabilitative services.

  • Supervises institutional program coordinators and assigned staff to ensure consistent program delivery across facilities.

  • Provides coaching and performance evaluation.

  • Conducts regular staff meetings, and training.

Must successfully complete four (4) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:
A bachelor's degree and relevant program experience.


SCDC Minimum Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree in guidance, counseling, or the social sciences and professional experience in human services or social services programs with at least five (5) years of experience working with youthful offenders or correctional programming.

  • Two (2) years of supervisory or management experience required. Preference given to supervisory experience from working with youthful offenders or correctional programming.

  • Experience with evidence-based programming, curriculum implementation, cognitive- behavioral models, and case management.
