This temporary job involves skilled woodworking and carpentry to help move and set up offices for the 120th Congress in Washington, DC, including building, repairing, and customizing wooden structures and furniture.

The role supports the Architect of the Capitol and may last up to 13 months or longer depending on project needs.

Key Requirements

Full Job Description

Located in the Architect of the Capitol (AOC), House Office Buildings and Senate Office Buildings, Wood Crafting/Carpentry Branch.

The AOC seeks temporary wood crafters for the upcoming 120th Congressional Moves Transition. Since office moves are scheduled 6 days a week, overtime may be required and will be mandatory.

Seeking applicants with journey-level wood crafting and/or carpentry skills. You must meet all eligibility and qualification requirements by the closing date of the job announcement.

You must meet the SCREEN OUT required for this position which includes: -- Ability to perform journey-level wood crafting or carpentry without more than normal supervision Your application must show that you have sufficient training and/or experience to perform the duties of the position as described in the vacancy announcement.

These positions are Temporary for the 120th House and Senate Congressional Moves. The job term may end when projects are completed, or funding expires.

This position will be used to fill Day and Night shifts. Shifts will be determined and or change based on Operational Needs of Management.

Hours may change depending on Operational Needs of Management Wood Crafters will perform a wide range of carpentry projects in support of the 120th Congressional moves.

Journey Level Experience in the Wood Crafter or Carpentry Occupational Trade is required.

Responsibilities: The work may involve construction, alteration, repair or modification of items and structures (such as wood and metal stud wall framework, walls, moldings, wood flooring, suspended ceilings, dry wall, doors, door frames, finished paneling, windows, counter tops, interior and exterior trim) where accuracy, spacing and fit are essential to structural soundness and appearance.

Selects, cuts, turns, shapes, joins, bonds, fits, assembles and decorates wooden materials and parts, using the full range of hand and power woodworking tools, machines and techniques to create superior and structurally reliable wood work which requires exact fitting and close weight, pressure and size tolerances to construct specialty furniture.

The individual(s) uses a wide knowledge of wood supplies and precision woodworking methods and their alternatives to plan and lay out their work from specifications, blueprints, rough sketches and verbal instructions, taking into consideration the tooling, durability, cost, strength and appearance characteristics of a variety of softwoods, hardwoods, plywood, veneers and wood substitutes for projects.

The individual(s) must follow all OSHA safety rules and regulations to ensure that work progresses in a safe manner.

The position also provides or receives training, either on the job or through classroom training, to ensure the utilization of all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), etc.

Performs other related duties as assigned. Please Note: This position is temporary and subject to the project needs of the Agency.

If project work continues, however, it could be extended beyond the 13 months-time frame at the sole discretion of the Agency.
