Job Description
Summary
This job is for a dietitian at a state veterans' home in Orting, Washington, where you'll assess residents' nutritional needs, track their progress using standard guidelines, and work with a team to create care plans while training staff on proper nutrition.

Dietitian 2
Full Time - Permanent
Washington Soldiers Home
Are you an experienced certified Washington state dietitian who would love a chance at becoming a state employee? This opportunity as a full-time Dietitian 2 is just for you! This position is based at the historic Washington Soldiers Home in scenic Orting, Washington!
Please Note: This position is Monday through Friday, with working hours 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
*This position has been posted within the assigned pay range through Step L. Step M has not been published as this is considered the longevity step, in alignment with state HR compensation rules.
Updated as of July 1, 2025: This position is eligible for "Supplement Basic Shift Premium" for 24/7 Facilities. Employees who are assigned to a facility that provides direct care to residents, patients, and/or clients and whose duties are required to be performed on location will receive an additional one dollar ($1.00) per hour of supplemental basic shift premium for each hour of basic shift premium. This shift premium does not apply to overtime hours. The supplemental basic shift premium shall expire on June 29, 2027.

These locations provide Medicare and Medicaid nursing home care to Veterans, including, in some instances, their spouses, widows, or Gold Star Families.
As a Dietitian 2 for the Washington Soldiers Home, you will chart the progress of each resident according to MDS guidelines, and you will be a part of a multidisciplinary team of care plan development, and educate and correct staff performance in meeting the nutritional guidelines in partnership with our Dietary Manager.

Requirements
Some of what you'll do:
- Serve as expert resource for guidance and problem solving for nutritional issues.
- Perform assessments of residents per VA, Medicare, and Medicaid regulations to meet guidelines.
- Interpret dietary prescriptions
- Recommend, formulate, and implement comprehensive resident nutritional care plans.
- Review and audit patient records.
- Communicate with nursing staff, food service staff, and other multidisciplinary team members.
- Document progress notes in a timely manner.
- Review and revise menus for modified diet needs.
- Provide support in planning and implementation of menus.
- Participate in quality assurance, data collection, and report preparation.
- Assist with development of policies and procedures.
- Train cooks, food service personnel, patients, or students in therapeutic meal preparation.
- Assist with providing new employee orientation.

Qualifications
Required:
- A Bachelor's Degree with major in Dietetics, Foods and Nutrition, or Food Service Administration for an accredited Dietetics program.
- Certified Dietitian with the Washington State Department of Health.
- 24 months recent full-time experience as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist OR, Equivalent Education/Experience.
- Must have the ability to read, write, and speak in the English language.
Preferred/Desired:
- A master's degree involving major study in food and nutrition or dietetics from an accredited dietetics program.
- Certified Diabetes educator.
- Certified specialist in Gerontological Nutrition.
- Able to organize, prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines in a time sensitive environment.
- Experience with project planning, implementation and evaluation.
- Possess an understanding of professional boundaries.
- Demonstrated skills and strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel, Outlook, and Word.
- Serve Safe certified.
- Experience with Point Click Care and/or other Electronic Medical Record Program.
Special Requirements:
Must be able to pass a DSHS BCCU Background Check prior to beginning services and every two (2) years in accordance with WDVA Policy 615.000 Background Checks.
