Summary

This volunteer role involves greeting visitors at a child and family services center, helping them find the right staff or services, and keeping the lobby organized and welcoming.

It's perfect for someone who enjoys interacting with diverse families, has good people skills, and wants to support community needs without a paid commitment.

Expect a flexible schedule of at least one 4-hour shift per week for several months.

Full Job Description

Make a meaningful first impression: As a Customer Service Specialist at a Child and Family Service Center, you will welcome visitors, manage schedules, connect families with staff, and support the parent visitation process while creating a clean, organized, and welcoming environment.

Locations: Pick one of the below locations:
  • Health Services Building 525 Portland Avenue South Minneapolis, MN 55415
  • NorthPoint Conference Center 1256 Penn Avenue North Minneapolis, MN 55411

Time Commitment:
  • Preferred commitment: 4 months or 16 shifts
  • Minimum: One 4-hour shift per week
  • One weekday shift either 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. or 1 p.m. - 5 p.m.

About the volunteer position type:

In this volunteer position, you will:
  • Welcome and greet residents entering the building.
  • Connect residents with the correct staff person.
  • Offer respectful guidance and help people navigate the facility.
  • Use Microsoft Excel to track walk-in visits and track appointments.
  • Use Microsoft Teams to check if residents have an appointment and schedule appointments.
  • Engage thoughtfully to understand each visitor’s needs before directing them to services.
  • Monitor lobby areas for well-being concerns and respond or escalate appropriately.

  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a helping team.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
  • Reliable and committed to scheduled shifts.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Completion of application, interview, orientation, background check (if applicable), and training.

Bilingual skills in Hmong, Russian, Spanish, or Somali are appreciated but not required.

Training and supervision provided by Child and Family Services staff.
