Key Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field plus 2 years of experience with Cisco and Avaya VoIP/PBX systems, or Associate's degree plus 4 years of such experience
  • Valid Texas Class 'C' Driver's License or equivalent from another state
  • One applicable CompTIA or Cisco certification at time of application
  • Pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain eligibility (no felony convictions, certain misdemeanors, open arrests, or family violence convictions)
  • Experience supporting VoIP, PBX, SIP, IVR, TDM, and LAN/WAN hardware including Cisco IPT and Acme SBC/voice gateways
  • Proficiency in network management tools like Cascade, NetBrain, and Statseeker for monitoring and reporting
  • Ability to troubleshoot PSTN/PBX issues in analog, ISDN, and T1CAS environments and maintain network documentation

Education and Experience: A Bachelor's Degree or higher in Information Systems, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field and two (2) years of experience with Cisco and Avaya VoIP and PBX systems or an Associates Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field and four (4) years of experience with Cisco and Avaya VoIP and PBX systems.

Licenses and Certificates: Texas Class "C" Drivers License or equivalent issued by another state. One applicable CompTIA or CISCO certification at time of application.

Special Requirements: Applicants for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) finger-print based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, the following will result in being disqualified for this position: Felony Convictions, Felony Deferred Adjudication, Class A & B Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication, Class B Misdemeanor Convictions, an Open Arrest for Any Criminal Offense (Felony or Misdemeanor), and Family Violence Convictions.

Requirements

Under general supervision, provide technical support for VoIP and/or PBX communication systems.

Qualifications

Support the customization, construction, installation and overhauling of VoIP and PBX equipment, facilities and programs. Involves: Using routing strategies, optimize delivery of calls utilizing multiple vendors. Utilize TDM, VoIP, VoIP over WAN, SIP and IVR systems and service to optimize up time. Support telecom moves, adds, changes and deploy new hardware and software. Configure and support voice services on all LAN/WAN hardware including Acme SBC/voice gateways and CISCO IPT solutions. Utilize network management tools such as Cascade, NetBrain and Statseeker to monitor, evaluate, and report performance statistics of the CISCO Call Manager, Unified Messaging and LAN/WAN networks. Monitor industry trends, technologies, and standards and be able to research, recommend, and apply new technologies as necessary.

Maintain telephony support to all city facilities and remote sites. Involves: Conduct efficiency analysis to improve service delivery. Troubleshoot high profile, revenue impacting, critical system and software failures. Develop and support application integration with the voice environment, such as with Microsoft OCS for click-to-dial functionality. Support mobility options including soft-phone and phone proxy. Maintain network documentation, such as topology diagrams, circuit/equipment inventories and configuration reports. Debug PSTN and PBX issues in analog, ISDN and T1CAS environments. Provide daily support and monitoring of networks and security environments.
Perform miscellaneous related duties as required.
