Full Job Description

The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) is seeking a talented Graphic Designer to provide creative design services for the agency by developing and producing branded print and digital materials.

This role collaborates with internal staff and program teams to ensure consistent brand messaging and effectively communicates the mission, goals, research, opportunities and achievements of SCDNR through compelling visual design.


The incumbent will be asked to:
  • Design and produce high-quality branded print and digital materials, including promotional items, marketing content, publications, reports, presentations, social media graphics, web assets, and online content.
  • Translate concepts, goals, and messaging into effective visual designs that align with the agency’s brand standards through collaboration with internal requesters, program teams, stakeholders, and external vendors to gather requirements, manage timelines, and deliver successful design solutions.
  • Prepare files for production, including print specifications, prepress preparation, and digital optimization.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining high quality and meeting critical deadlines.
  • Receive and incorporate feedback professionally, revising designs as needed.
  • Maintain organized project files and document design workflows.

Requirements

A bachelor's degree in website design, computer science, integrative communications or related field; or an associates degree and two (2) years of relevant professional experience.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, Fine Arts, or a closely related field.
  • Professional experience as an in-house graphic designer.
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat) and Microsoft 365 on a PC platform.
  • A strong graphic designer with proven abilities in layout, typography and visual composition, supported by a professional portfolio of relevant work.
  • Experienced designing both digital and print products, including marketing and outreach materials, publications and online content.
  • Proficient in the understanding of production processes including print specifications, file preparation and digital optimization.
  • An excellent written and verbal communicator.
  • Collaborative minded when working with team members, requesters, vendors and stakeholders.
  • Open to feedback and can revise work constructively.
  • Strong hand-eye coordination, accurate color perception, and attention to detail.
  • Able to operate complex graphic arts equipment.
  • Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously under pressure, able meet peak workload demands, and deliver on critical deadlines.
  • Able to work with diverse requesters and translate their goals into effective design solutions.
  • Highly organized, with ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment.
