Job Description

Summary

This job involves helping crime victims by coordinating support services, guiding them through court processes, and ensuring they understand their legal rights during federal prosecutions.

You'll work closely with lawyers and partners to provide resources like financial aid and emotional support, especially in tough cases like human trafficking or mass casualties.

GS-12: To be qualified at the GS-12 level, you must have ONE (1) full year of Specialized Experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal Service.

Specialized experience: is defined as experience performing the following types of duties: coordinating with victim service providers (federal, state and/or local law enforcement) to provide resources and services to victims of crimes; analyzing victim-witness communication needs in order to develop and administer a comprehensive victim-witness program; providing recommendations to senior management on victim related matter; developing program protocols, policies and/or operating procedures for the victim-witness assistance program; and conducting workshops, seminars or meetings with victim-witness subject-matter specialist, state and/or local officials.

Major Duties:

If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for assisting and providing direct assistance and services to crime victims.

Typical work assignments will include: Assisting Assistant United States Attorney's (AUSAs) in locating victims and assessing their ability to testify in court proceedings.

Providing in-court support to victims during and prior to hearing and trials, including courtroom orientation prior to testimony, facilitating opportunities for victims to consult with AUSAs about potential challenges to successful court appearance by victims.

Informing victims of their rights under Federal law and assisting victims with exercising those rights throughout the prosecution.

Informing victims of the various means available to seek financial restitution efforts.

Assists crime victims in completing applications and required documents to access victim assistance funding or needed services.

Developing United States Attorney's Office victim-centered responses in mass casualty, death penalty, human trafficking and other complex or challenging victim cases.

Building relationships with key partners to support victims and agency's goals and priorities.

Maintaining expertise related to victim assistance programs and best practices for crisis interventions for victims of crime Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
