Job Description

Summary

This job involves supporting crime victims and witnesses in federal court cases by providing information, advocacy, and coordination with various services to help them through the legal process.

You'll work closely with law enforcement, social services, and the U.S. Attorney's office to ensure victims' rights are protected and they receive necessary assistance.

A good fit would be someone with experience in victim services, strong communication skills, and a passion for helping people navigate challenging situations in the justice system.

As needed, additional positions may be filled using this announcement. GS-12: To be eligible at the GS-12 level, you must meet one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level.

Specialized Experience is defined as experience analyzing victim-witness communication needs in order to develop and administer a comprehensive victim-witness program, providing recommendations to senior management on victim related matters, providing information and direct support to crime victims throughout the legal process, and promote programmatic effectiveness.

If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team as a Victim Witness Specialist with the United States Attorney's Office in the Eastern District of Virginia.

Typical work assignments will include: Directing dissemination of information pertinent to various victim and witness protection laws.

Speaking to public, civic, industry, and special interest groups on victims' issues.

Coordinating efforts with local victim services providers, social services, law enforcement-based victim assistance providers, and prosecution based victim-witness staff.

Developing and providing annual training, information and resources on victim matters.

Responding to victim inquiries, assessing concerns, and determining program eligibility for victim-witness services. Providing in-court support during hearings and trials.

Advocating on behalf of crime victims in regard to issues and problems caused by crime. Obtaining services and assistance for victims and witnesses through specific federal programs and funds.

Serving as liaison between U.S. Attorney and local, state and federal law enforcement agencies on victim matters.

Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
