Regional Animal Services of King County (RASKC) is looking for a Licensed Veterinary Technician to join our dynamic team!

We are looking for an LVT who is passionate about animal welfare, self-motivated ,team oriented, compassionate, and dedicated.

This is a fast-paced job, providing surgery and medical care for almost 5000 shelter animals per year.

RASKC provides animal services to 24 cities and unincorporated King County, including helping abandoned, orphaned and injured animals, providing Animal Control services, reuniting lost animals with their owners, spaying, neutering and finding new homes through our Pet Adoption Center, and offering many volunteer opportunities.

ABOUT RECORDS & LICENSING SERVICES

The Records and Licensing Services Division (RALS) is a division of the Department of Executive Services.

RALS operates within a statutory framework that is prescribed by state law and county code.

Many of the services administered by the division are mandated by state law, and are provided in King County on a regional basis across jurisdictional boundaries.

RALS also provides certain local services to unincorporated King County and by contract with many local municipalities throughout King County.

In addition, RALS is responsible for providing internal services that are necessary for purposes of business efficiency and meeting various legal responsibilities.

RALS is responsible for:

  • Recording documents related to real property sales and other transactions and making them accessible for members of the public, businesses, and other government agencies
  • Collecting and dispersing real estate excise tax payments on the conveyance of real property in King County
  • Providing licensing and information services and promoting public safety by administering and enforcing vehicle and vessel licensing and taxi and transportation network company (TNC) regulations
  • Providing internal mail services and physical and electronic records management services to all county agencies
  • Providing animal care and control services for the protection of property, human health, and safety and promoting responsible pet ownership and animal welfare through education and licensing programs via public and private sector partnerships

Requirements

Scope of Duties: To be considered for this opportunity you must at a minimum demonstrate skill and ability to:

  • Prepare animals for surgery including induce and monitor anesthesia, intubate, surgical preparation, and oversee post-surgical recovery. RASKC Veterinary Clinic provides HQHVSN to 15-30 patients per day (dogs, cats, and rabbits).
  • Maintain controlled logbooks, properly calculate and administer medications.
  • Monitor animals in care, document and report changes and concerns to the veterinarian. Maintain accurate medical records.
  • Provide care for animals housed in the clinic or kennels under veterinary care including feeding ,watering, medicating and cleaning.
  • Perform technical skills including blood drawing, IV injections, IV catheterization, fluid administration, all routes of medicating, cystocentesis, skin scraping, laboratory work (blood, urine, feces, ears swabs and other cytology's) etc.

    Our technicians also receive additional training in Dermatophyte sampling, culturing, microscopic identification and management of cases.

  • Recognize, report and document fear, anxiety and stress in shelter animals. Fear Free Shelter training available. Handle animals in a humane manner under a variety of shelter situations, including willingness to euthanize animals as directed.
  • Maintain a safe, sanitary and humane working environment for staff and patients, including cleaning kennels, treatment areas, floors, surgery suite, surgical instruments, lobby performing laundry and other duties. Stock and maintain clinic pharmaceuticals, equipment and supplies.
  • Implement continuous improvement processes that relate to improving communication and animal care
  • Train and support volunteers assigned to the veterinary clinic and other areas as needed.
  • Understand the policies, procedures, laws (RCWsandWACs) ,regulations, and specialized terminology associated with veterinary medicines as governed by state, and federal entities, appropriate for a WA licensed veterinary technician

Qualifications

We are looking for Candidates Who Are:

  • A Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT or equivalent) who is licensed to practice in Washington State.
  • New graduates, from an AVMA accredited program, are welcome to apply.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with High Quality High Volume Spay neuter surgery
  • Experience in Shelter Medicine
  • Familiarity working with Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Teams, Waitwhile, and Chameleon software

Additional Information

  • Selected candidate(s) will go through a background and reference checks, drug screening and a pre-employment physical, demonstrating the ability to perform moderate to difficult strenuous manual tasks including lifting animals weighing up to forty (40) pounds on a frequent basis.
