Full Job Description
Plans, assigns, reviews, disputes and supervises the work of Mechanics who perform a variety of routine and complex repairs to both gasoline and diesel-powered equipment and vehicles, including, but not limited to , brakes, filters, transmissions, exhaust systems, cylinder heads, valves, hydraulic systems, timing belts, drive trains, engines, controls, cooling systems and fuel systems. Contacts correct agencies in warranty type work on new equipment. Plans, assigns and supervises the work of employees to include the preventative maintenance program for equipment and vehicles. Assists mechanics and preforms any necessary repairs to vehicles and equipment, as needed. Assures that the Shop area is maintained in a safe, clean and organized manner. Distributes jobs to employees to perform work on various types of equipment and vehicles. Initiates the job service sheets through the Highway Maintenance Management System Program (HMMS) daily. Reviews and approves the service tickets once jobs are complete, the parts and labor are posted and the Supply Specialist has closed the ticket. Assists road work crews in the preparation of Shop repair orders. Completes daily work reports in HMMS and generates time sheets for Shop personnel. Purchases parts and supplies, as needed. Provides technical expertise in ordering parts and supplies. Checks inventories for spare parts. Researches information on vendors, equipment parts and information pertaining to equipment maintenance and repairs. Must know where parts are available and have working relationships with vendors in order to keep necessary parts in stock to allow mechanics to continue working productively. Assists Supply Specialist in the projection of anticipated parts and supplies, consisting of the ordering stock repair parts, special repair parts and tool and equipment. Works during snow and ice and inclement weather events and emergency operations. Required to work 12-hour shifts when necessary. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
A high school diploma and four (4) years of work experience that involved the independent performance of job duties directly related to the area of employment; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Completion of one (1) academic year of a South Carolina High School Automotive Technology or Diesel Engine curriculum may substitute for six (6) months of directly-related experience. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
The physical demands for the essential functions involves bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulate objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material. grasping .This position requires working in a large garage setting and may perform duties in an uncomfortable position for long periods of time. Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease on a daily basis.
