This job involves operating and maintaining wastewater treatment plants and utility systems across national monuments in the Flagstaff area, including tasks like monitoring equipment, conducting tests, and fixing issues to keep everything running smoothly.

PROBATIONARY PERIOD: As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period during which your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest will be evaluated.
This probationary period is an extension of the appointment process and therefore requires the agency to determine if continued employment would advance the public interest, meet the organization goals and mission of the agency, and/or otherwise promote the efficiency of the service.
In determining if your employment advances the public interest, the agency will consider: your performance and conduct; the needs and interests of the agency; whether your continued employment would advance organizational goals of the agency or the Government; and whether your continued employment would advance the efficiency of the Federal service.
Under applicable law, the employment of an individual serving a probationary or trial period automatically terminates when that period ends unless the agency affirmatively certifies, in writing, that the individual's employment should continue and that their appointment should be finalized.

Upon completion of your probationary period your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest. Major Duties:
The incumbent will be required to work within all the Flagstaff Area National Monuments which consist of Sunset Crater Volcano, Walnut Canyon and Wupatki.
Wastewater Treatment Operations Operate and monitor extended aeration wastewater treatment plants with tertiary sand filters and liquid chlorination systems.
Conduct laboratory testing (e.g., BOD, suspended solids, chlorine residuals) and adjust system controls to ensure optimal effluent quality.
Maintain detailed logs of plant operations, conditions, and laboratory results. Diagnose equipment malfunctions, determine repair needs, and perform or coordinate necessary repairs.
Inspect and maintain mechanical and electrical equipment including pumps, valves, compressors, relays, and switches.
Maintain wastewater collection systems including sewer lines, manholes, force mains, and lift stations.
Manage contractor activities on assigned projects This position will be required to obtain a COR (Contracting Officer's Representative) Level 1certification during the first 180 days of employment.
Water Treatment Operations Operate and maintain water treatment systems in accordance with EPA standards. Perform routine inspections and servicing of pumps, chlorinators, and control systems.
Monitor and adjust chlorine levels in potable water; clean and repair chlorination equipment as needed.
Responsible for collecting, documenting, and reporting required drinking water compliance data to the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ), including routine water quality monitoring results, operational records, and timely notification of any violations, emergencies, or operational changes in accordance with state and federal Safe Drinking Water Act requirements Plumbing Systems Install, modify, and repair utility, supply, and disposal systems including water, sewage, oil, and gas.
Maintain and repair fixtures such as water closets, tubs, showers, and sprinklers. Electrical Systems Troubleshoot and repair electrical circuits, fixtures, and control equipment.
Maintain and service components such as circuit breakers, relays, and pump control switches.
