Full Job Description

College Interns assist the Department of Public Safety - Administration in achieving departmental goals and objectives by working to complete assigned tasks and projects in the following areas: Business Management/Office Administration, Cyber Security, Homeland Security, Communications, Community Outreach, Business Community Outreach.

Interns will have the opportunity to learn about general operating procedures, public service and the workings of City government, as well as specific skills, which may include but are not limited to: budgeting, planning meetings and special events, community engagement and outreach, marketing and promotion, inventory control, researching and developing policy, analyzing data and developing reports, documenting procedures, time management, and maintaining databases.

Civil Service Classification: Exempt.

QUALIFYING REQUIREMENTS:
Your City of Pittsburgh application will be reviewed and your work experience and education/training will be evaluated to determine if you meet the qualifying eligibility requirements listed below for this position. You will be sent an eligibility letter regarding your eligible/ineligible status.
  • WORK EXPERIENCE: None required for this position.
  • EDUCATION/TRAINING: Must be currently enrolled and taking classes in an accredited college or university undergraduate or graduate program; OR have graduated within the last twelve (12) months.
  • EQUIVALENCY: None permitted for this position.

  • May maintain supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipates needed supplies; places and expedites orders for supplies; verifies receipt of supplies.
  • May provide general administrative support to staff.
  • May provide primary phone coverage (first to answer all incoming calls).
  • Performs such other related tasks and duties that are assigned or required.
