Full Job Description
The purpose of this job is to prune and remove trees within the city right-of-way, including city parks and cemeteries, on a regular and emergency basis. Performs seasonal planting of new trees within the same right-of-way.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.
- Removes, prunes, and maintains city trees, using specialized equipment and hand and power saws
- Performs stump grinding/root cutting along city streets, parks and cemeteries
- Prunes trees to assure adequate clearance for overhead utilities
- Removes split and damaged limbs from storm damaged trees; removes limbs from power lines; removes trees and limbs fallen into streets and onto cars or buildings
- Plants trees; removes stumps and roots
- Operates a variety of standard power and hand tools and specialized equipment, such as chain saws, chippers, stump cutters, mobile aerial tower, hoppers and the like
- Operates snow removal equipment, as needed; removes snow and applies salt along city street right-of-way
- Responds to emergencies, as needed
- Performs related work as required
Requirements
Required Education and Experience
--AND--
- At least one (1) year of experience in grounds keeping activities, especially with regard to trimming trees
--OR--
- Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities
Required Licenses or Certifications
- At least a Class B CDL with the ability to obtain a Class A CDL with Air Brake endorsement within six (6) months of hire.

Qualifications
To be eligible for this position, you must pass a performance exam aimed at demonstrating your ability to climb without spurs (75 ft tree), set up your own line, and use proper safety harnesses and rope-tying techniques.
