Summary

This job involves managing permits for work near roads in a South Carolina county, including reviewing plans, inspecting sites, and helping people and utilities complete the process.

Full Job Description

Responsible for implementation of the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) encroachment permit process at the county level to include all communication and/or meetings with applicants, permitting data entry, plan review, field review, and construction inspections. Ensures all permitted work complies with applicable SCDOT specifications, standards, and policies. Assists the general public to include all public utilities with the navigation and completion of the encroachment permitting process. Maintains close coordination with District Permit Engineers and Resident Maintenance Engineer for the review of plans and completion of all final inspections. Assists the Assistant Resident Maintenance Engineer and the Resident Maintenance Engineer with the collection and tabulation of data for maintenance projects to include, but not limited to patching, paving mowing, limb trimming, herbicide application, sweeping, sidewalk and guardrail repair for both in-house and contract crews. Assists the Assistant Resident Maintenance Engineer and the Resident Maintenace Engineer with the inspection and the appropriate inspection documentation for all contract maintenance and repairs. Assists maintenance crews during hazardous weather and emergency operations. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

A high school diploma and one (1) year of experience that is related to the area of employment; or an approved acceptable equivalence.

The physical demands for the essential functions involves frequent bending, kneeling, stooping and lifting up to 50 lbs. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards. May require occasional exposure to noise. May require working outside of normal work schedules and weekends.
