This job involves inspecting road construction projects, such as checking asphalt placement, ditches, and pipes to ensure everything meets standards, while documenting progress and handling basic surveys.

Job responsibilities are under the direction of Clarendon Construction.
Performs asphalt road inspections to include checking rate of application of tack and asphalt, alignment, crown in road, temperature of surface to be covered and of asphalt being placed, and rolling of asphalt.
Keep notes and prepare necessary reports, requires mathematical computations.
Inspects all phases of work performed by contractors in the areas of construction of ditches, laying pipe, grading, placing base course, placing hot laid asphalt, bituminous surfacing, and other related aspects of new road construction.
Reads and interprets construction plans and specifications, makes visual inspection, takes representative samples to make sure all specifications are being met.
Responsible for detecting any poor workmanship and making sure it is corrected immediately or suspend work until corrections are made.
Required to keep daily diaries, document quantities for pay and complete reports including federal reports on federal aid projects.
Performs survey party duties of moderate complexity, operates a transit and level. Determines rate and method of super elevation and computes vertical and horizontal curves and related elevations.
Keeps notes and records. Prepares final construction plans, including using drafting skills, computing quantities, verifying plan changes, recording, and organizing data.
Monitors and inspects erosion control and traffic control activities for compliance with approved plans.
Ensures highway and bridge construction permits involving environmental factors are in compliance. Performs other related duties as assigned.
A high school diploma and one (1) year of experience that is related to the area of employment; or an approved acceptable equivalence. A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve sitting or standing at a desk for extended periods of time. This position may require occasional travel.
This position may require bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling.
This position required driving and walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and natural environmental hazards.
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies.
This position may be exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions and noise.
