Full Job Description

Serves as Assistant Resident Maintenance Engineer inspecting requests for service implementing Department policy related to various maintenance activities. Inspects crews during daily work activities ensuring work is performed to DOT Standards and that proper traffic control is implemented. Plans, organizes, directs foremen and/or crews engaged in road, bridge and building maintenance repair projects. Prioritizes work needing to be performed. Prepares and reviews evaluations of employees and assist foremen with personnel matters. Interviews for new hires and assists in interviewing for promotions within crews supervised. Communicates with local officials, administrators and general public on field complaints. Prepares written correspondence related to maintenance activities. Uses personal computer to enter daily reports and special required reports. Assists during inclement weather to help coordinate personnel, equipment and materials. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management and three (3) years of engineering or construction management work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.


The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time. This position may require travel.

This position may require bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling.

This position required driving and walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and natural environmental hazards.

May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies.

This position may be exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions and noise.
