Job Description

Summary

This job involves overseeing highway and bridge construction projects as a project engineer, ensuring contractors follow plans, materials meet standards, and safety measures like erosion and traffic control are in place.

It also includes coordinating with utility companies, public officials, and survey teams while handling inspections, payments, and documentation.

Full Job Description

At Lexington Construction A, serves as project engineer on complex highway and bridge construction projects. Inspects each phase of work in all areas to see that inspectors and contractors are following plans. Ensures that other inspectors are assigned to proper areas necessary to monitor work as it is being performed. Must ensure that accurate notes and measurements are made so that proper payments can be made to contractors. Supervises sampling of materials used by contractors to ensure that all materials meet specifications. Monitors test results and takes action as necessary. Checks erosion control throughout the entire project. Checks traffic control to ensure that all is correct as directed by specifications. Serves as the Department's representative when dealing with utility companies regarding any and all utility conflicts. Meets with the general public contractor's personnel, utility company representatives, city and county officals as necessary while representing the Department. Supervises the preparation of final plans and monthly construction estimates to ensure pay estimates are up to date and correct. Coordinates duties and supervises the work performed by survey party crew. Ensures that the survey party and survey equipment are available when needed. Checks elevations, alignments, etc. when necessary.

Requirements

A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management and one (1) year of engineering or construction management work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required.

The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time. This position may require travel. This position may require bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling. This position required driving and walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. This position may be exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions and noise.

Additional Information

May be required to work overtime, nighttime, and/or weekends during hazardous weather or emergencies.
