Job Description
Summary
This job involves helping to manage and supervise maintenance contracts for roads and public spaces in South Carolina, including creating bids, inspecting work on things like sidewalks and drainage, and tackling special projects like pipe repairs or accessibility upgrades.
It also means responding to public complaints, working in emergencies or bad weather, and being ready for physically demanding tasks outdoors.
A good fit would be someone with an engineering background or related experience who enjoys hands-on fieldwork, team supervision, and problem-solving in a government setting.
Key Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management (or equivalent year-for-year relevant experience)
- Valid motor vehicle operator's license
- Ability to supervise personnel and manage contract inspections for right-of-way maintenance (e.g., sidewalks, drainage, chemical/mechanical work)
- Experience developing maintenance contracts, including data gathering, scope of services, and bid packages
- Capability to assist in investigating public complaints and completing complex projects like trenchless pipe repair, ADA upgrades, and sound wall repairs
- Willingness to work extended hours, overtime, nights, weekends, or 12-hour shifts during emergencies or inclement weather
- Physical ability to handle demanding tasks such as bending, climbing, walking on uneven terrain, and exposure to traffic, weather, and noise
