Job Description

Summary

This job involves helping Navy personnel manage the shipping, storage, and transportation of their household goods and personal items during moves, including advising on rules, estimating costs, and coordinating with vendors.

Full Job Description

You will serve as a Transportation Assistant (Vendor/Storage Management) in the Navy Household Goods/Personal Property Shipping Office (HHG/PPSO) Vendor/Storage Management Section of NAVSUP FLC SD GF.

GS5: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-04) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing work that demonstrates the following: Customer service - Anticipates and meets the needs of both internal and external customers.

Delivers high-quality products and services; is committed to continuous improvement.

Computer literacy - Demonstrates skill in using job-relevant information systems and/or software applications, such as word processing, spreadsheets, automated research tools, database applications, and the Internet.

Written Communication -Conveys written information in a clear, concise, organized, and convincing manner for the intended audience, using correct English grammar, punctuation, and spelling.

Expresses thoughts persuasively and uses effective modes to reinforce message retention.

Ability to work with others -Ability to secure agreement without causing friction, to understand the other person's position, and to resolve conflicts.

Examples include serving with tact and diplomacy on committees, conferences, or other situations involving contact with people.

Persuasively enforcing policy and in giving instructions, with a minimum of dispute, grievances or delay in operations.

Personal property shipment work involves duties such as determining and advising on entitlements or procedures related to, for example, temporary storage of goods, weight allowances, prohibited items, and shipment of unaccompanied baggage, privately owned vehicles, and household goods; preparing cost estimates to assist the customer in determining the best method of movement (e.g., Government, commuted rate); selecting carriers and arranging for the pickup, delivery, and storage of personal property; and establishing and maintaining records of all lots in storage, determining if lots exceed weight allowances, and arranging for the removal or relocation of items.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Major Duties:

  • You will act as a single point of contact for household goods shipment management functions related to invoicing, Storage in Transit/Non-temporary Storage (SIT/NTS), and providing Transportation Service Provider (TSP) quality assurance oversight.
  • You will approve/disapprove invoices and pre-approve accessorial services submitted by Transportation Service Providers (TSPs)/contractors.
  • You will notify members/employees of storage expiration dates, approves/disapproves requests for storage extensions, and notify TSP/contractor if shipment is to be converted to commercial storage.
  • You will perform duties of Contracting Officer Representative (COR) to review vendor invoices for accuracy of work performances/charges and monitor TSP/contractor performance.
