Education and Experience: High School Diploma or GED, or higher, and two (2) years of experience working with traffic signal control devices, installing, maintaining, and/or repairing electrical and electronic control systems.
Licenses and Certificates: Valid Texas Class “C” Driver’s License by the date of appointment.
Special Requirements: Some positions may require a valid Texas Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or equivalent from another state by the time of appointment.
Incumbents in positions requiring a CDL or of a safety-sensitive nature are subject to drug and alcohol testing and may be required to pass physical qualification examinations under federal regulations.
Under general supervision, installs, repairs, troubleshoots and maintains traffic systems, communication, illumination, and/or data collection devices and systems.
Assist in installation, maintenance, and repair of traffic signals and associated wiring, structures, equipment, and systems.
Involves: Assist with maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, or replacement of flip dot display signs, video or audio announcement systems, two-way radios, clock systems, traffic signals, motor components, and other similar electronic or electromechanical equipment.
Learn to install, maintain, and replace TV cameras, motorized LED and fiber optic signs, and cable and communication modems; monitor communication devices/systems.
Assist in various technical duties supporting the installation, maintenance, operations, and repair of traffic signals, communications, and ITS infrastructure.
Involves: Install and splice electrical cable and wiring. Assist in traffic signal installation, maintenance, and repair activities following the applicable standards and project specifications.
Assist in installation, maintenance, modification, adjustment, testing, troubleshooting, inspection, and, repair of electronic traffic control, data collection, or illumination systems.
Responds to emergencies to repair and maintain traffic signals, systems, lighting, or traffic data collection equipment.
Perform related duties as required. Involves: Perform duties of coworkers as necessary to ensure continuity of operations.
Maintain cleanliness of tools, work areas, and assigned vehicles and observe standard operating procedures and safety practices. Maintain and update files, records, reports, and logs.
