Job Description

Summary

This technician role at the Naval Sea Systems Command involves supporting the safe handling, inspection, and disposal of explosive hazardous waste, including checking packaging, maintaining equipment, and helping engineers solve related problems.

It's a hands-on position in a government facility in Indian Head, Maryland, focused on quality control and process improvements for waste management.

Key Requirements

  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to NT-02 (GS-05 to GS-08) for NT-03 level, including applying technical engineering services for quality control in explosive hazardous waste disposal
  • For NT-02 level: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to NT-01 (GS-01 to GS-04), including reading and interpreting technical drawings, diagrams, or specifications
  • Ability to conduct visual inspections of packaging condition, labeling, and inventory for explosive hazardous waste sites
  • Experience working with engineers and technicians to resolve problems in product packaging, labeling, and equipment design
  • Knowledge of safe handling procedures and continuous process improvements in hazardous waste operations
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain necessary security clearance for Department of Navy positions
  • Familiarity with federal service qualifications under Engineering Technical Series 0802

  • You will assist with visual inspections of Explosive Hazardous Waste (EHW) packaging condition and labeling as well as inventory of EHW sites to ensure correct product counts.
  • You will work with engineers and technicians on the resolution of problems associated with product packaging quality and labeling, and report inaccuracies to the supervisor.
  • You will maintain equipment quality and assist with implementing continuous process improvements while working with engineers and technicians on the resolution of problems associated with equipment design at EHW sites.
  • You will work with engineers on the development of a contained burn unit and will assist in setting up processes of the new facility.
  • You will work with other operations to make sure areas of the contained burn unit work smoothly.
