Full Job Description

You will serve as a Technician in the USW Ship Test and Evaluation Branch (Code 242), within the Fleet Warfighting Readiness and Operations Division (Code 24) at NAVUNSEAWARCENDIV KEYPORT WA.

This position is part of the Warfare Centers Personnel Demonstration Project. The NT-5 pay band encompasses positions equivalent to GS-13 and GS-14.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the NT-4 pay band (GS-11 and GS-12 equivalency) in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector applying technical electronics techniques to test and evaluate antisubmarine warfare systems.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Major Duties:

  • You will develop new test objectives and procedures to measure performance and effectiveness of Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) and Undersea Warfare (USW) systems and components of Navy Surface Combatants and Submarines, and new variants of systems.
  • You will develop and implement plans to execute testing onboard naval vessels without higher level guidance to apply.
  • You will provide administrative direction and support to a team of engineers and technicians in the performance of shipboard test execution.
  • You will coordinate test execution with Ship’s Force command leadership to ensure safe test conduct.
  • You will provide direction and training to Ship’s Force on maintenance and operations and assess warfighter performance during the execution of shipboard test events.
  • You will evaluate the performance and effectiveness of ASW/USW components and systems.
  • You will provide leadership expert advice in resolving major technical problems to Ship’s Force, peers, and sponsors.
  • You will prepare technical reports to document the performance and effectiveness of ASW/USW systems and recommendations on the system’s ability to perform safely and effectively.
  • You may be appointed ad-hoc tasks from headquarters level and serve on the Undersea Warfare Working Group, or other working groups, to recommend command-wide policies and procedures.
