DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Troubleshoots, maintains, manages and upgrades existing electrical and instrumentation systems to ensure an economical and safe distribution of electricity.
Researches and analyzes cause of failures; repairs, performs calibrations, replaces and installs new equipment/components and related hardware to maximize functionality.
Provides preventive maintenance ensuring safe and clean operating conditions. Prepares and updates various records, logs and reports.
Responds to emergency calls during and after hours for various types of electrical/instrumentation failures and shutdowns. Organize schedules and monitors work assignments.
Researches technical product specifications. Inspects field locations to determine appropriate types and placement of electrical components for installation.
Must have a current State of Texas or City of Houston Journeyman Electrician License.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position routinely requires lifting of moderately heavy items (up to 40 pounds) and/or very long periods of walking on rough surfaces on a routine basis. Occasional minor discomforts from exposure to less-than optimal temperature and air conditions.
This is a Department of Houston Public Works position at the Tier I Level.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Depending upon area of specialty -- may require a valid class "C" Texas driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving. In the Public Works and Engineering Department, may require a valid class "C" or higher Texas Water or Wastewater Plant Operator's license.
Qualifications
Preference will be given to the candidates with a current State of Texas or City of Houston Journeyman Electrical License, experience in maintenance of industrial electrical / instrumentation systems and Siemens PLC's.
**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**
