The Washington State Attorney General’s Office’s Transportation and Public Construction Division (TPC) in Tumwater, WA is seeking a dedicated and experienced leader to fill a Managing Assistant Attorney General 1 (MAAG1) position in its Tumwater location.
This position leads and manages WSDOT’s Construction/Contracts Team consisting of three attorneys.
Supervisory responsibilities include training, coaching and mentoring attorneys of varying experience levels, evaluating attorney performance, supporting professional development, responsibility for workload distribution and all supervisor administrative duties.
In addition, this position actively participates in division leadership, attending regular meetings, assisting with the development and implementation of operational processes, and monitoring progress in achieving divisional goals.
This position also meets regularly with our client agencies to provide training and consultation on case-related issues.
As a managing AAG in the TPC Division, you will maintain a diverse and complex advice and litigation caseload.
The WSDOT Construction/Contracts Team represents WSDOT and WSF in all aspects of public works procurement, design build, progressive design build and design bid build project delivery contracting, construction claims, contract drafting and negotiations, land use, legislative drafting, risk management, interagency cooperative relations, utilities, rail, and traffic operations in support of the delivery of transformative highway transportation and ferries projects.
These projects include the I-5 Interstate Bridge Replacement project, the conversion of the WSF fleet from diesel power to hybrid electric, I-405 and SR 520 Mega programs, and the fish passage culvert correction program.
The selected candidate will have an opportunity to work independently and to partner with other TPC attorneys, professional staff and clients on a wide variety of interesting and challenging matters.

The division includes 26 attorneys and professional staff located in Tumwater and Spokane and litigates matters in state and federal courts and administrative forums.

In addition to meeting the requirements to serve as an Assistant Attorney General, the preferred candidate for this position will have:

This MAAG1 position is represented by the Association of Washington Assistant Attorneys General (AWAAG) / Washington Federation of State Employees (WFSE) AFSCME Council 28, AFL-CIO.
AAG salaries are set between $86,328 and $161,700. The exact amount is set in accordance with Appendix B of the AWAAG CBA.
