Requirements

As a Tax Account Collections Technician, you will utilize the Revenue phone system and Microsoft outlook to assist taxpayers or their representatives according to established guidelines.

Communication is key as you inform taxpayers or their representatives of delinquent taxes, non-filed returns, or other documentation that must be submitted.

You can expect to discuss delinquencies on an account and retrieve needed documents for processing.

This position determines tax liability due, computes interest and penalty and inputs updates in PATH and Bridges levy database.

Work involves pursuing the collection of tax liability for businesses, and individuals in addition to maintaining files and computer records on Wage Garnishment and Bank Attachment cases.

Additional duties include:

  • Processing payments received from taxpayers, their representatives, employers, or banking institutions to the proper Revenue system
  • Creating Wage Garnishment vouchers based on type of payment received
  • Verifying that Garnishment payments and seized bank funds are applied correctly to a taxpayers account
  • Manually requesting liens against delinquent tax liability, and lien satisfactions via PATH
  • Researching accounts in PATH from the Licensee Tax Responsibility Program (LTRP) listing for possible wage garnishment or administrative bank attachment

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time up to three days a week after successful completion of required in-office training.

    In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.

    If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.

  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $45,907.00 (before taxes).

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three years of experience reviewing tax documents and applying tax laws and rules and regulations and making taxpayer liability decisions; or
  • Three years of experience in the collection of taxes; or
  • Three years of experience in the provision of taxpayer assistance which involves the explanation of the application of tax laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures; or
  • Any combination of experience and training which provides the applicant with the required knowledges, skills and abilities.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.


Legal Requirements:

This position will have access to Federal Tax Information (FTI) and is subject to the provisions of IRS Publication 1075 (Pub 1075) which requires you to pass an enhanced background check prior to beginning employment.

Under Pub 1075, acceptance of a conditional offer of employment will require submission to and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to: a fingerprint-based federal records check; a PA State Police clearance; a check of local law enforcement agencies where you have lived, worked, and/or attended school within the last five (5) years; and a citizenship/residency verification.
