Systems Administrator

Office of Innovation and Technology | Remote | PERMANENT APPOINTMENT


This recruitment is open to WA residents and those residing on the ID/WA and OR/WA borders.


THE OPPORTUNITY

This role is all about making Microsoft 365 work better for the people who rely on it every day.

As part of the M365 Support team, you will support and administer SharePoint, Teams, and OneDrive across a large enterprise environment.

You will help users solve problems, design better collaboration spaces, and adopt consistent standards that improve how information is organized, shared, and secured.

This is an entry level enterprise application support role where you will build hands on experience with system administration, governance, user support, and solution design while working alongside experienced administrators.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide day-to-day administration and tier two enterprise support for SharePoint, Teams, and OneDrive
  • Troubleshoot user issues by researching root causes, testing solutions, and following issues through resolution
  • Partner with business teams to plan, build, and improve SharePoint sites and Teams that support real work including external partner access and collaboration
  • Help maintain information architecture including metadata, site structure, and content organization
  • Contribute to platform governance, standards, and security best practices
  • Support training, documentation, and user resources that improve adoption and consistency of M365 best practices
  • Assist with testing and agency communication of ongoing improvements or changes to functionality of M365 services

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Qualifications:


Three (3) years professional experience in one or more of the following IT disciplines: SharePoint Online or Server Administration, Systems development, Web Site Design/Development and Management, Web Content Management Systems or IT Consulting. Experience must include:

  • Experience Designing, developing or configuring web sites or web collaboration software.
  • Experience preparing documentation including internal technical documents, system diagrams, use cases, test cases, and user documentation and manuals.
  • Proficiency in translating complex technical issues into readily understood concepts for staff, management, and the public.


Preferred/Desired Qualifications:

  • An Associate’s degree or higher in an Information Technology program or a closely related field.
  • Proficiency in administration and supporting SharePoint Online, Teams and OneDrive or equivalent.
  • Experience in developing, recommending, and maintaining SharePoint, Teams, and OneDrive standards, best practices for an organization, including facilitation with diverse stakeholder groups to reach consensus.
  • Microsoft SharePoint certification
  • ITIL Foundation certification (current version)
  • Demonstrated ability to use Visual Studio and SharePoint Designer, experience with JavaScript, XML, JSON,CSS, and HTML.
  • Proficiency in writing technical user documentation and presenting to diverse audience.

Conditions of Employment:

Work Setting, including hazards:

  • This position can be performed entirely from home and does not require regular in-person attendance. If onsite work is needed, the supervisor will plan and communicate the request in advance.
  • Exposure is similar to hazards found in a typical office or home-office environment, with extended computer-based work.

Schedule (i.e., hours and days):

  • This position follows a standard 40-hour schedule. Although DOH business hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 to 5:00
  • Alternate or flexible schedules may be approved by the supervisor.
  • Overtime is not typically required but may occur with advance notice.
  • Occasionally the employee may be contacted outside of business hours to address emergencies or urgent business needs and is expected to assist, if possible. Maintenance windows vary from team to team but are scheduled in advance.
  • This position may participate in stand-by coverage to support agency systems.

Travel Requirements:

  • Travel is not required for daily duties; however, occasional trips to meetings, trainings, or conferences may be expected.
  • Employees who drive for state business must be able to legally operate a vehicle or provide alternate transportation.
  • Some travel is required, and is typically local or regional, to meet with clients, conduct business, or attend or provide training.

Tools and Equipment:

  • This position uses standard office equipment, including a computer, monitors, keyboard, mouse, cell phone, desk, and office chair.
  • Agency provided: laptop, cell phone (or stipend), keyboard, mouse, docking station, and monitors, subject to supervisory approval. VPN will be used for remote connectivity.

Customer Interactions:

  • Position requires frequent interactions with DOH staff and leadership.

Other:

  • DOH facilities are smoke free, drug free, alcohol free, and scent neutral.
  • This position may be required to participate in public health emergency preparedness and response activities.
  • Representation: This position is covered by a bargaining unit for which the Washington Federation of State Employees (WFSE) is the exclusive representative.
